A list of suggestions with details will be included in the information at registration.
- Go sightseeing in London for the afternoon and evening. There are regular fast trains from Guildford taking about 35 minutes to London Waterloo.
- Go to Portsmouth for the afternoon and evening. This town on the south coast of the UK is famous for its port. There are regular ferry services to France and Spain and a historic dockyard. It was the birthplace of the famous English author Charles Dickens.
- Spend the afternoon in the town of Guildford; here are some links to some sites with local information. For example, you can shop on the high street, visit the cathedral (right next to the University), hire a rowing boat or just stroll.
- Go walking in the hills near the University. It is a short walk from the University Campus to the North Downs hills, offering fine views of the area and some of the most beautiful countryside in the south of England. We may organise a guided walk.
- There is an Art Exhibition by local artists at the Harlequin Restaurant of the Yvonne Arnaud theatre, Guildford, 10am-4pm on Monday to Saturday of this week; admission is free.
- Prepare your lecture or stay in bed (not recommended).
- It is not expected that there will be a bench-throwing contest, but this could be arranged given enough interest.
